Following sinus surgery, you must follow these instructions to prevent complications.
If your sinuses were exposed during a tooth removal, the roots of your upper teeth had grown through bone and into your sinus. Following their removal, an opening into the antrum becomes visible. This is common. The opening will usually close without complications by following these instructions.
- Please take prescribed antibiotic tablets as directed. They are essential to prevent infection.
- Refrain from any vigorous mouth rinsing.
- Do not inhale deeply on a pipe or cigar, blow vigorously or suck through a straw.
- Avoid blowing your nose, although some discharge (perhaps containing blood for the first few days) may be expected.
Strict adherence to these instructions may prevent the necessity of a surgical closure of your sinuses in the future.
